ThisisthestoryofEvaPerónafterherdeath.Theembalmedbodyof“Evita”hadaneventfuljourneythatlastedfor22years,andwaseverybitaseventfulasher33yearsoflife.Evitadiedin1952,buthercorpsewaitedabovegroundforthreeyearsfortheconstructionofamonumentthatwasultimatelyneverbuilt.In1955,PresidentPerón’sgovernmentwasoverthrownbyamilitarycoup,whohidthebodyfor19yearstopreventitfrombecomingasymbolagainsttheregime.WhileonlyapoliticalfigureforsixyearsasGeneralPerón’swife,hercorpseinfluencedArgentinepoliticsformorethantwodecades—weavingamorbidlystrangestorythatpassedintotherealmofmythology.Tothemilitaryofficersthattookover,Evitawasevenmoredangerousthanwhenshewasalive,asallfearedthaterrantcorpsewithoutarestingplace.
